  1. Cameroon won its maiden Women's Africa Cup of Nations football title, defeating Malawi 3-0 in the final; Marie Ngah scored a first-half double.
  2. In the first India-Sri Lanka Test at Galle, India took a 178-run first-innings lead; Devdutt Padikkal scored 167, Manav Suthar took 4/76 on debut, and Ravindra Jadeja became the first Indian left-arm bowler and fourth player overall to reach 350 Test wickets and 4,000 runs.
  3. 210 Indian peacekeepers, including 6 women and 7 Staff Officers, were awarded the UN Medal for exceptional service in Juba, South Sudan; India is the top troop contributor to UNMISS with 1,775 military personnel and the second-largest overall contributor to UN peacekeeping.
  4. Union Minister Jitendra Singh conferred the 9th National ANUBHAV Awards 2026 on 15 awardees at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, and addressed the 60th Pre-Retirement Counselling Workshop; the Handbook on Pension Mitra and Guidelines for the Nation-wide Digital Life Certificate Campaign-5 were also released.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan handed over approval for 2,89,355 PMAY-G houses in Rajasthan worth ₹3,473 crore and also approved ₹340.59 crore under agricultural development initiatives including PM-RKVY; PMAY-G norms now include two-wheeler-owning families and women's monthly income ceiling raised from ₹10,000 to ₹15,000.
  11. Bharat Taxi, India's first cooperative-led ride-hailing platform, was established on 6 June 2025 under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002; as of 25 July 2026 it has nearly 8 lakh registered drivers and 41 lakh registered customers.
  12. India's first virtual zoo opened in Indore, Madhya Pradesh along with a 14-D cinema theatre and virtual jungle safari developed under PPP mode at a cost of about ₹4.5 crore; CM Mohan Yadav inaugurated the facilities.
  13. Telangana CM Revanth Reddy inaugurated Dr Marri Chenna Reddy TIMS in Sanathnagar; it is India's first government hospital with an AI-based pneumatic tube system and has 1,082 beds, 300 ICU beds, largest single-phase government super-specialty hospital, and IGBC Gold rating for saving 75% water.
  14. Qatar-India PosTransfer powered by UPI remittance service became available through Qatar Post outlets; transactions range from QAR 10 to QAR 4,000, up to ₹1,00,000 per transaction, with a flat charge of QAR 15.

  19. The Ministry of Defence signed a contract worth approximately ₹1,943 crore with General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. for leasing two MQ-9B Sea Guardian High-Altitude Long-Endurance Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems to the Indian Navy for 30 months.
  20. The Indian Army contingent departed for the 15th edition of India-Thailand Joint Military Exercise MAITREE-XV, scheduled from 18 to 31 August 2026 at Vibhavadi Rangsit Camp, Surat Thani, Thailand; contingents comprise 85 personnel each and focus on joint counter-insurgency/terrorist operations under Chapter 7 of the UN Charter.
  21. The eighth edition of the IN–USN Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Exercise 2026 concluded at the Southern Naval Command, Kochi on 14 August 2026.
  22. A multi-state crackdown on the ISI-backed Shahzad Bhatti Network led to 253 detentions across 14 states, over 80 FIRs and 200+ arrests, with recoveries including IEDs and grenades bearing Pakistan Ordnance Factory markings; Union Home Minister Amit Shah said it was destroyed ahead of Independence Day.

Under India's BRICS Chairship 2026, the Senior Officers' Meeting of the Environment Working Group and Contact Group on Climate Change and Sustainable Development was held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, chaired by Secretary MoEFCC Tanmay Kumar; the 12th BRICS Environment Ministers' Meeting is scheduled in New Delhi on 18 August 2026.
